New Insulfoam Product, R-Gard, Has Numerous Applications In Alaska Construction

Galco Building Products, a division of Spenard Builders Supply, is now stocking R-Gard, a new generation of rigid foam underlayment by Insulfoam that “is like slipping on a Gore-Tex® jacket over a wool sweater.” It adds performance to EPS insulation that previously was only available in higher-priced extruded rigid insulations.
R-Gard is different because it is film-faced Expanded Polystyrene. Insulfoam took standard breathable EPS insulation and wrapped it in a thin white (or reflective silver) polyethylene sheath that protects the R-Value from water, freeze, thaw, humidity and job site misuse, while still allowing the wall to breathe. It is lightweight, job impact resistant and cuts for easy installation. Provided in a quick and easy fanfold configuration, or in standard, durable, watertight sheathing dimensions (2X8 or 4X8), R-Gard can be used for insulating roofs, foundations, side walls and masonry cavities without overstating density and PSI strength that adds cost but not performance. Additional applications include civil construction, cold storage, RV and mobile homes, packaging and foundation form systems. Insulfoam is the largest Expanded Polystyrene Insulation Block molder in the U.S. with 10 manufacturing locations in the states, including one in Anchorage. The company produces a variety of products for roofing, insulation, industrial, commercial and marine applications.
