The Advantage of Quad-Lock Building Systems
Hickel Construction recently used Quad-Lock on the “The Highland Apartment” complex...according to Hickel Superintendent, Dan Jobson, “Quad-Lock is extremely easy to use, more versatile than any other system and fast tracks the schedule because it can be installed in any weather with in-house crews and produces a good quality foundation that is more efficient and stronger than other systems. Our fifteen building multi-family project came out 3 weeks ahead of schedule with in-house crews, even though it rained almost everyday during construction.”

Quad-Lock Adds to Product Line
The leader in Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) for residential and commercial construction, Quad-Lock, has added some new products to its line aimed at efficiency and higher R-values. Quad-Lock Plus, a new Wire Top Tie and a 12-inch tie are now being carried at your local SBS store.

Quad-lock is a lightweight insulating, stay-in-place concrete forming system that is made of expanded polystyrene. It is commonly used for foundations, exterior walls, sound walls and retaining walls. Quad-Lock walls are stronger, better insulated, energy efficient and more resistant to natural disasters.
Quad-Lock Plus, a thicker version of the existing Quad-Lock panel is 4.25-inches thick, providing a higher insulation value than any other North American ICF system. When used on one side of a wall with the regular panel on the other side, Quad-Lock Plus provides an R-value of R-32. When used on both sides, it rises to R-40.
Contractors should consider using this higher efficiency panel any time they are looking for higher energy savings. The product is especially applicable to Alaska because of the state’s drastic temperature swings and the likelihood of extremely low temperatures in winter. Quad-Lock Plus makes wall transitions easier, quicker and less expensive by eliminating the need to place two different tie sizes in the transition layer. Pricing is slightly higher than for the regular Quad-Lock panel.
A new Wire Top Tie, used exclusively with the Quad-Lock system, creates a plumb top finish to the wall requiring less material and labor. Increase the speed of finishing the top of walls by saving time on bracing. The new Wire Top Ties make it no longer necessary to cut wood members that later require stripping. Because spreader cleats aren’t needed, it’s easier to trowel the top of the concrete. The ties keep the top panels plumb, and when used with Quad-Lock J-track, the wall is kept secure, resulting in a straighter wall.
A third product added to the Quad-Lock Building System is a 12-inch tie. The new tie compliments the existing line of ties that allow for construction of four, six, eight and ten feet concrete walls. One-foot-thick walls are often used for retainer and shelter walls. The new 12-inch tie also works well with Quad-Lock Plus, creating a 10-inch-thick concrete wall.
