New Product News: Hardirock Lightweight Joint Compound

The James Hardie Gypsum company has applied more than 100 years of experience to creating a superior line of lightweight joint compounds. The line of Hardirock Lightweight ready-mixed joint compounds provides a smooth, seamless finish for walls and ceilings, offers a superior bond as well as all the benefits of regular weight compounds at up to 35 percent less weight. The compounds require only minimal mixing or thinning, and that means easier finishing and sanding.

Another great feature of the new compounds: quick drying time that provides the advantage of being able to apply several coats within the same day; and, the availability of the compounds in a variety of set times.

Hardirock Lightweight All Purpose Compound
This all-purpose compound is suitable for taping and finishing wallboard joints, corner trims and fasteners. Its strong bond is perfect for embedding tape, and provides good workability and low shrinkage for the second and finish coat. It can also be used for spot work such as patching and repairing plaster walls, hand applied textures and skim coating.

Hardirock Lightweight Taping Compound
This lightweight-taping compound is designed for embedding drywall-reinforcing tape. The product exhibits minimal shrinkage and a strong bond for a smooth, uniform wall surface. This taping compound is not recommended for the second and third coats over embedded tape, or as a texturing material.

Hardirock Lightweight Topping Compound
The topping compound is approximately 35 percent lighter in weight than standard topping compounds, and provides soft sanding, easier workability and low shrinkage. It should be used for the second and third coats over wallboard joints, corner trims and fastener heads. This compound isn’t used for embedding tape, skimming or texturing.
