DeWALT’s New, Seven Tool 36-Volt Line Provides Maximum Power Without the Cord

Now professional contractors can have it all. DeWALT has introduced a complete line of 36 Volt power tools that offer the performance needed to complete high-powered applications, with the convenience of no cord. The entire 36V cordless line, which includes a hammerdrill/drill/driver, reciprocating saw, circular saw, rotary hammer, impact wrench, jigsaw and flashlight, features a new generation of lithium-ion batteries.

The new line promises increased levels of power and run time, with similar or less weight than similar corded tools. The 36-volt line of power tools was unveiled to the general public at the International Builders Show in Orlando in January, and limited quantities are available at Spenard Builders Supply stores statewide.

Extensive research went into the development of these tools, including detailed field research where DeWalt installed sensors on tools to digitally record how professional contractors use them. As a result of the data collected, DeWALT determined 36V was the cordless platform with the capabilities that best matched or exceeded the performance of corded tools. To create the battery technology for the tools, DeWALT partnered with A123Systems, developer of a new generation of lithium-ion batteries that incorporates nanoscale technology developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The 36V technology offers a high level of power, durability and life, when compared to other lithium technology.

Independent third-party testing of the new tools found they provide the same application performance of corded tools, while delivering two to three times more run time than 18V tools. Highlights of the tools include:

Hammerdrill/Drill/Driver Kit – a three-speed transmission optimizes speed of the application for maximum performance. The new 1/2-inch self-tightening chuck tightens throughout the drilling or driving operation to provide superior bit gripping with twice the big gripping torque of a traditional keyless chuck. Comes with two battery packs, a one-hour charger, 360-degree side handle and a heavy duty kit box.

Reciprocating Saw – an innovative four-position keyless blade clamp that allows the blade to be inserted in four positions for added versatility and convenience when flush cutting. A 3-position shoe also allows easy adjustments to depth of cut. The saw is perfect for cutting existing walls, PVC, metal pipe or studs, strut and duct corners making it especially handy for electricians, plumbers, HVAC installers, remodelers and for those doing demolition and framing work.

Circular Saw – features a 7-1/4” carbide tipped blade for increased cutting capacity at 90-degree and 45-degree angles. An all-metal keyless blade clamp allows for quick and easy blade changes and a magnesium shoe and upper guard allow for more durability. In independent tests, the saw cut through twice the material and plywood as the fastest leading corded saws. The 36V circular saw is perfect for trim carpenters, electricians, plumbers, HVAC pros, remodelers and framers.

Rotary Hammer – offers the same impact energy as corded tools with 1.9 ft-lbs of impact energy in a compact L-shaped design. The patent-pending SHOCKS Active Vibration Control™ system reduces vibration and increases user comfort.
Impact Wrench – a patented all-metal anvil holds sockets strong and longer and prevents shearing. The wrench also has a rocker switch design that allows the user to quickly and easily transition from forward to reverse. A high-speed, all-metal transmission delivers 1-1,400 rpm and 2,500 bpm, perfect for setting concrete anchors, tightening couplings, setting flange bolts and driving lag bolts. Deck builders, general contractors, concrete formers, plumbers and mechanical contractors will especially love this tool.

Jigsaw – an all-metal lever action keyless blade change allows for quick and easy blade changes and the keyless shoe bevel with detents at 0, 15, 30 and 45-degrees provides versatility for easy bevel cutting. A dust blower allows for a clean sight line when cutting. This jigsaw is ideal for cutting hardwoods, plywood, laminate, sheet metal and plastics. Tests show it can cut twice as fast as an 18V saw.
